Can lost Hindu empires be recovered?

Hinduism is never an India-specific religion. Discovery of ancient Hindu idols in places as far as central Asia proves valiance of earlier Hindu empires.

However, owing to several reasons, Hinduism got erased from most of the places which lay to the west of India. Can they be recovered yet again?
